From January, people will no longer be allowed to drive while videoconferencing.

While the state of Illinois is already considered ‘hands-free’ when it comes to mobile phones, the bill does not allow the use of an electronic device while participating in a video conference.

Law enforcement officials say there are already enough distractions built into our vehicles.

“There are enough distractions built into our cars anyway, the texting and driving thing has now expanded into video conferencing and we know it’s convenient and certainly the technology allows for it, but that doesn’t make it a good idea,” said Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell.

Officials encourage drivers to always use Bluetooth devices when necessary while driving.
