A curfew has been enforced in Ambad taluka of Maharashtra’s Jalna district due to concerns regarding the law and order situation amidst the ongoing agitation for Maratha reservation led by activist Manoj Jarange. The decision was made following an order issued by the district administration.

According to the directive from Jalna Collector Srikrushna Panchal, Mr. Jarange declared his intention on February 25 to travel to Mumbai and protest for Maratha community reservation. There is apprehension that individuals may converge at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna, where the activist has been conducting a hunger strike, in an attempt to prevent him from traveling to Mumbai.

The order highlighted the potential for a large crowd gathering, which could disrupt traffic on the Dhule-Mumbai highway and surrounding areas. Therefore, in light of the prevailing law and order situation, a curfew has been implemented in Ambad taluka from midnight on Monday until further notice.

However, certain entities are exempt from the curfew restrictions, including government offices, schools, traffic on National Highways, milk distribution, media, and hospitals, as specified by the Collector.

Despite leaving Antarwali Sarati and briefly arriving at the nearby Bhamberi village on Sunday night, Mr. Jarange returned to Antarwali Sarati on Monday morning to resume his protest and seek medical treatment.
