Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird took center stage at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, emphasizing that supporting former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election equates to backing law enforcement and combating crime across the nation.

Bird, who secured her position in 2022 by defeating longtime Democratic Attorney General Tom Miller, highlighted her victory as part of a broader Republican resurgence in Iowa during the midterm elections. Addressing the convention, Bird asserted that her election reflected Iowans’ desire for an attorney general who prioritizes law enforcement.

“We won because Iowans were ready for an attorney general who was protecting them, not the criminals,” Bird declared, underscoring her commitment to standing up against what she termed as the radical policies of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

Emphasizing Trump’s steadfast support for law enforcement, Bird contrasted this with what she portrayed as inadequate backing from Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. She criticized Democratic approaches to crime, accusing them of treating police unfairly and criminals leniently, sentiments echoed in the divisive “defund the police” movement.

“Republicans ensure justice for victims and ensure criminals are held accountable,” Bird asserted, rallying support for Trump’s candidacy with a promise of robust law enforcement policies.

Bird’s support for Trump dates back to October 2023, when she endorsed him ahead of Iowa’s caucuses, where he secured a significant victory. Despite Trump’s legal challenges, including recent convictions, Bird did not address these issues in her speech, focusing instead on promoting his agenda for the upcoming election.

During the RNC, Bird also played a pivotal role in nominating U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance for vice president, showcasing her influence within the Iowa GOP. Her appearances underscored her alignment with Trump’s administration and her commitment to advancing conservative values in law enforcement and beyond.
