Eli Bremer, who was elected as Williams’ replacement, subsequently filed a lawsuit challenging the legitimacy of Williams’ continued leadership.
Judge Eric Bentley’s ruling clarified that the removal process was flawed, stating, “The claim to have ousted the Williams faction fails.” This decision has left many party members divided and uncertain about their future direction.
In response to the ruling, Williams vowed to take legal action against those who opposed him, framing their efforts as an “unlawful coup.” He emphasized that he would pursue accountability for what he described as an attempt to destabilize the party.

Dick Wadhams, a prominent GOP strategist, criticized Williams’ leadership style, suggesting that his focus on personal ambition detracts from the party’s electoral goals. “This situation has left nothing but wreckage in its wake,” Wadhams remarked.
Despite the internal strife, some analysts believe that Republican candidates may still find success in key districts. Democratic analyst Mike Dino noted that certain areas favor Republican candidates, but he questioned how Williams’ leadership would influence those races.
As tensions rise within the party, key figures are beginning to voice their frustrations. Bremer expressed disbelief at the court’s decision and is currently seeking legal counsel regarding potential next steps.
Meanwhile, local GOP gatherings have become battlegrounds for competing factions. At a recent meeting in Colorado Springs, Williams attempted to rally support while simultaneously facing challenges from members seeking to remove El Paso County Vice Chair Todd Watkins, a significant player in the effort to oust him.
Former state representative Lois Landgraf voiced her concerns about the current state of the party: “This party is pretty far down there, and whoever takes over will need to work hard to rebuild it.” She added that many members are eager for a change in leadership.
As Election Day approaches on November 5, the Colorado GOP must navigate its internal divisions while attempting to present a united front to voters.
