World’s First Law on Health Labeling of Alcohol Introduced in Ireland

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has signed new legislation on health labeling of alcoholic products.

The law means that labels for alcohol products will state the calorie content and the grams of alcohol in the product.

They will also warn about the risks of drinking alcohol during pregnancy and the risks of liver disease and deadly cancer from drinking.

Ireland is the first country in the world to introduce such regulations.

The law sets a three-year lead-in period to give businesses time to prepare for the change.

The law will apply from May 22, 2026.
