Following the arrest of 57-year-old Kenneth Law in May on two counts of aiding suicide in Ontario, disturbing revelations have emerged. Law is suspected of distributing and promoting lethal substances online, primarily targeting individuals at risk of self-harm.

Initially focused on Law’s actions, the investigation has since broadened. The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) recently disclosed that they have identified 232 individuals in the UK who purchased items from Law’s Canadian websites over a span of two years, up until April 2023. Tragically, among these customers, 88 individuals have lost their lives.

A spokesperson emphasized that, while it is currently premature to confirm that the online purchases were directly responsible for the deaths, each case is undergoing thorough examination.

Authorities in Ontario’s Peel Regional Police revealed that the chemical distributed online is a “white, crystalline substance” often utilized in food processing. In substantial quantities, this substance can diminish oxygen levels, impede breathing, and lead to fatality upon ingestion.

Reports indicate that Law is suspected of dispatching approximately 1,200 packages to addresses in 40 different countries. Investigations are ongoing in the United States, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand.

Craig Turner, the deputy director of the NCA, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and highlighted the comprehensive support being offered by specially trained officers. He also announced that, in collaboration with the Crown Prosecution Service, the NCA has embarked on a UK-based investigation into potential criminal offenses. This operation is already underway.

According to local media, Law’s next court appearance in Ontario is scheduled for Friday.
