Two Korean companies have signed a memorandum of understanding with Ukraine’s railway operator to help rebuild the war-torn country’s railways.
According to The Korea Times, Korea National Railway and Korea Railroad Corporation have agreed to assist in the construction of seven projects, including a line connecting Ukraine and Poland, the extension of railways through the centres of Izmail, Odesa and Reni, and the construction of a rail traffic control centre.
Korea National Railway will work on feasibility studies and Korea Railroad Corporation will focus on operations and maintenance. Hyundai Rotem will build the trains and a maintenance facility.
There is currently no timeframe for construction and no financial details have been disclosed.
Korean government agencies and Hyundai recently signed agreements to upgrade Ukraine’s Boryspil airport.
