Chris Nepszy, the former chief engineer of the City of Windsor, has filed a lawsuit against the city for wrongful dismissal, alleging a culture of corruption involving the mayor and city administration. Nepszy, who was relieved from his position in November 2023, claims that his termination was an act of reprisal due to his refusal to participate in improper conduct.
The lawsuit contains several allegations, including demands from Mayor Drew Dilkens and senior administrators for acts of impropriety, such as the misuse of public funds for political or personal gain. Nepszy also alleges that he was instructed to focus on appeasing the mayor and his supporters, and was coerced into covering up costs and delaying reports for the mayor’s political advantage.
Mayor Dilkens has denied these allegations, calling them “spurious,” and stated that the city will defend itself. The lawsuit seeks $1 million in damages, as well as a remuneration package commensurate with Nepszy’s former role. The City of Windsor has yet to file a statement of defence.
