Avolta, a leading travel retail operator, has secured a significant contract extension at Athens International Airport, solidifying its retail presence for the next decade. The extension, spanning ten years until the beginning of 2034, reaffirms Avolta’s commitment to delivering premium experiences and services to travelers passing through Greece’s busiest airport.
Under the extended contract, Avolta will continue to operate 31 retail sites covering over 4,900 square meters of floor space at Athens International Airport. This includes duty-free retail shops operated by Avolta’s subsidiary, Hellenic Duty Free Shops, which have been a fixture at the airport since its inception in 2001. Avolta has recently expanded its retail footprint by approximately 290 square meters, enhancing the shopping experience for travelers in the Schengen area with a refurbished walk-through duty-free shop.
Luis Marin, President and CEO for Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Avolta, expressed gratitude to Athens International Airport for the continued partnership, which has been mutually beneficial over the past 23 years. He credited the collective efforts of Avolta’s team for securing this significant contract extension, emphasizing Avolta’s commitment to providing exceptional services and premium experiences to travelers.
George Eleftherakos, Chief Development Officer at Athens International Airport, echoed Marin’s sentiments, expressing excitement about expanding the longstanding relationship with Avolta. He highlighted Avolta’s position as the largest retail concession operator at the airport and emphasized the shared goal of providing travelers with the best of Greece’s offerings and an unforgettable airport experience.
Athens International Airport has experienced robust passenger traffic, with 28.17 million passengers in the previous year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 10.2%. The contract extension with Avolta reflects the airport’s commitment to enhancing the traveler experience and further solidifies Avolta’s position as a key player in Southern Europe’s travel retail sector.
