The OCCAR-EA Director, Mr. Joachim Sucker, has signed the third amendment to the Night Vision Goggles Contract on behalf of Belgium and Germany. This contract involves the procurement of additional Night Vision Goggles and In-Service Support in collaboration with the Consortium of Hensoldt Optronics GmbH and THEON Sensors SA.
The latest amendment includes the acquisition of 16,041 MIKRON NVG Sets and 8,423 Head Mounting Systems for Germany, along with initial In-Service Support for the additional German NVG sets. Since 2021, nearly 20,000 MIKRON NVG Sets have been delivered to Belgium and Germany, along with accessories and In-Service Support.
Representatives from Germany emphasized the continuous enhancement of Belgian and German night vision capabilities, as well as the strong cooperation between the two nations. They also commended the successful achievement of the objectives of the Night Vision Capability (NVC) Programme and the effective management provided by OCCAR.
The Belgian-German NVC Programme aims to procure and manage night vision equipment for dismounted forces and drivers of military vehicles, resulting in increased interoperability and reduced logistical footprint in operational theatres. It stands as a significant cooperation project in this technological field and one of the largest NVG tenders in Europe.
The MIKRON NVG is a lightweight, image-intensified, dual-tube binocular that can be operated helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or hand-held. It features an integrated infrared illuminator and allows instant usage configuration changes by flipping away each monocular separately. Powered by a self-contained single AA battery, it can also be used with a remote battery pack for extended operating time.
