In a recent development, Helmut Marko has shed light on the contract negotiations between Red Bull and Sergio Perez, indicating that the team is hesitant to meet Perez’s demands for a three-year contract extension.
Perez, whose current deal with Red Bull expires at the end of the 2024 season, has been in talks with the team regarding a potential renewal. However, it appears that the initial discussions have hit a roadblock, with Perez pushing for a three-year extension that Red Bull is unwilling to commit to.
Marko, the motorsport advisor for Red Bull, emphasized that while negotiations are ongoing, Perez must continue to deliver strong performances on the track. He stated, “First he wanted a three-year contract, but we will find a solution.”
Despite Perez’s impressive start to the season, with four podium finishes in five races, Red Bull seems cautious about committing to a long-term agreement. Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, echoed this sentiment, indicating that while Perez may be eager for a quick decision, the team is in no rush to finalize its driver lineup for the 2025 season.
Horner emphasized Red Bull’s satisfaction with its current driver lineup, comprising Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, and stressed that any decision regarding Perez’s future will be made later in the year.
As negotiations continue, the Formula 1 world awaits further developments on Perez’s contract situation and its implications for Red Bull’s driver lineup in the upcoming seasons.
