Rod Brind’Amour, the coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, has signed a multiyear contract extension, ensuring his continued leadership of the team. The 53-year-old coach, who had been in the final year of a three-year contract, has been instrumental in the Hurricanes’ success over the past six seasons, guiding them to the playoffs each year and winning at least one round in each postseason.
Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell expressed his confidence in Brind’Amour, highlighting his significant contribution to the team’s achievements. He stated, “Ever since he joined the organization 24 years ago, Rod has embodied what it means to be a Hurricane.”
In addition to Brind’Amour’s contract extension, Hurricanes assistants Jeff Daniels and Tim Gleason, video coach Chris Huffine, and goaltending coach Paul Schonfelder have also received multiyear contracts.
Brind’Amour, who took over as head coach in 2018, has compiled an impressive record, both in the regular season and playoffs. Under his leadership, the Hurricanes have enjoyed three consecutive seasons of at least 50 wins and secured their first division title since 2005-06 in the 2020-2021 season.
His impact extends beyond the statistics, as Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns noted, highlighting Brind’Amour’s special relationship with the players and his infectious energy. Brind’Amour’s personal history with the Hurricanes, including his tenure as captain when they won the Stanley Cup in 2006, adds to his significance within the organization.
Overall, Brind’Amour’s contract extension is a testament to his leadership qualities and the positive direction he has taken the Hurricanes in recent years.
