Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Pacific has recently announced the awarding of two significant contracts totaling $122 million for projects at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz (MCBCB) on Guam. These contracts, funded by the Government of Japan (GOJ) as part of the Defense Policy Review Initiative, underscore the ongoing collaboration between the United States and Japan in bolstering military infrastructure.
Florence Ching, the director of NAVFAC Pacific Guam Program Management Office, expressed satisfaction with reaching these milestones, emphasizing the critical role that these facilities will play in supporting Marine Corps personnel and operations at MCBCB.
The first contract, valued at $78,432,217, was awarded to Hensel Phelps Shimizu JV for the construction of a new single-story corrosion repair facility at MCBCB. This state-of-the-art facility will incorporate robust construction features to withstand Guam’s environmental conditions and seismic activity, ensuring resilience and longevity. Completion of this project is anticipated by October 2026.
The second contract, totaling $44,265,264, was awarded to Caddell-Nan, a Joint Venture, for the construction of a two-story education center at MCBCB. Designed to provide essential education and family services to active duty Marines and their families stationed in Guam, this facility will feature modern amenities including academic instruction facilities, family service centers, and a library. The expected completion date for this project is May 2026.
Colonel Ernest Govea, commanding officer of MCBCB, commended the progress made in construction milestones, emphasizing the significance of these projects in enhancing capabilities for warfighters and fostering lasting benefits for the community. As construction progresses, these projects are not only expected to enhance military readiness but also contribute to the local economy through job opportunities and infrastructure development.
