Simone Inzaghi, the coach of Inter Milan, has expressed his lack of concern regarding the contract extension negotiations involving club captain Lautaro Martinez.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN following Inter’s 2-2 Serie A draw against Hellas Verona, the Nerazzurri coach addressed the ongoing discussions surrounding Martinez’s contract situation.
Martinez, an Argentine FIFA World Cup champion, is currently under contract with Inter until the conclusion of June 2026. While negotiations for an extension are underway, they are not pressing, given the ample time remaining on Martinez’s existing contract.
However, Inter is keen on reaching an agreement sooner rather than later. Nevertheless, reports indicate that the club has yet to meet the financial demands set by Martinez and his representative.
Adding to the complexity of the situation is the recent change in ownership at Inter, with Oaktree assuming ownership just last week. This transition period will likely delay major decisions, including contract negotiations for the club captain, for the next two to three weeks.
Despite the significance of Martinez to Inzaghi’s squad, the coach remains unperturbed by any uncertainties surrounding the captain’s future. Inzaghi expressed confidence in the club’s management, emphasizing continuity and the presence of competent directors.
Addressing questions about his own contract extension, Inzaghi affirmed his trust in the club’s leadership and expressed gratitude toward the Zhang family, the previous owners of Inter. He anticipates fruitful discussions with the new owners, highlighting their ambition for the club’s success.
Looking ahead to the next season, Inzaghi acknowledged the demanding nature of professional football, stating that Inter is well-aware of the challenges ahead. Reflecting on the previous season, he emphasized the team’s determination to pursue their objectives, including their pursuit of the Serie A title.
Inzaghi asserted his belief that Inter was the top team in Italy, reflecting on their performance and goals from the past season.
