Louisiana’s new permitless concealed carry law took effect on Thursday, allowing residents aged 18 and older to carry concealed handguns without the need for a permit or training. However, there are significant stipulations concerning where firearms can be carried.
Under the new law, concealed guns are not permitted in any building where firearms are prohibited by state or federal law. This includes law enforcement buildings, detention facilities, courthouses, polling places, and both municipal and state buildings.
Additionally, the law prohibits carrying concealed firearms in school zones and bars. While concealed guns are allowed in restaurants that serve alcohol, this permission is subject to specific restrictions and does not apply universally.
