CANYON VILLAGE, Yellowstone National Park — A major law enforcement incident unfolded overnight and into the early hours of July 4th at Canyon Village, located in the heart of Yellowstone National Park. Authorities have confirmed there are no ongoing threats to the public.
Rangers responded to a report of an armed individual making threats. Upon contact, the situation escalated into an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and law enforcement officers. The suspect was fatally shot during the altercation. The individual’s identity has not been disclosed pending further investigation.
One Yellowstone law enforcement ranger sustained injuries during the incident. The ranger is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at a nearby regional hospital.
