LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — Beginning this Friday, a new state statute will prohibit drivers from making right and left turns on red arrow signals across Nebraska.
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) announced the implementation of this law, emphasizing its role in bolstering safety for all road users, including pedestrians and motorists.
Assistant Director of Transportation Thomas Shafer underscored the importance of compliance with the new regulation. “We urge all drivers to familiarize themselves with this new law and comply with it to enhance the safety of our roadways,” Shafer stated. “Prohibiting turns on red arrows is a crucial step in protecting drivers and pedestrians, particularly at busy intersections.”
According to Nebraska Revised Statute 60-6,123, drivers approaching a steady red arrow signal must come to a complete stop before entering a crosswalk or stop line. The law mandates that drivers remain stationary until a green arrow signal permits movement.
LTU highlighted that this legislative update forms part of ongoing initiatives aimed at improving street safety and reducing intersection-related accidents.
