Apple Invests $500 Billion in U.S., Expands Manufacturing Amid Tariff Threats

by Celia

Apple has announced a massive investment plan, committing to spend over $500 billion in the United States over the next four years. This significant move includes hiring 20,000 new employees and constructing a new server factory in Texas. The decision comes shortly after a meeting between Apple CEO Tim Cook and President Donald Trump, where Trump claimed that Apple was shifting its manufacturing from Mexico to the U.S. to avoid tariffs.

President Trump has been threatening to impose tariffs on goods imported from China, which could increase the cost of iPhones. Apple primarily manufactures its products in China, making it vulnerable to these tariffs. The company’s investment plan is seen as a strategic move to mitigate these risks.

“We are optimistic about the future of American innovation,” said Tim Cook. “We’re proud to expand our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future.”

The new factory in Houston, set to open in 2026, will produce servers for Apple’s AI services. This project is expected to create thousands of jobs. Additionally, Apple plans to double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund and establish a manufacturing academy in Michigan to support skills development.

This announcement echoes a similar commitment made by Apple in 2018, during Trump’s first term, when the company pledged to invest $350 billion in the U.S. and create 20,000 jobs.
