A court in Seoul has accepted a civil lawsuit filed by actor Kim Soo-hyun against the family of late actress Kim Sae-ron and the operators of the YouTube channel Hoverlab.
The lawsuit seeks damages and was registered by the Seoul Central District Court, which assigned a case number. Since the claim exceeds 500 million won (about $368,000), it is expected to be heard by a panel of three judges.
Kim Soo-hyun’s legal team, led by attorney Kim Jong-bok from LKB & Partners, announced that they have also filed criminal charges for defamation.
In a separate civil complaint, Kim’s team is seeking 12 billion won (approximately $8.8 million) in damages from Kim Sae-ron’s family, an individual claiming to be her aunt, and Hoverlab’s operators.
Kim Soo-hyun denies allegations that he dated Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. His team submitted forensic analysis reports showing that KakaoTalk messages from 2016 and 2018, presented by Kim Sae-ron’s family as evidence, were not exchanged with him. These messages were central to the allegations against Kim Soo-hyun, but his team claims they were fabricated.
