The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has frozen certain funds to Maine’s educational programs due to the state’s decision to allow transgender women in sports, according to a statement from Secretary Brooke Rollins.

Rollins warned that Maine’s federal funding would remain frozen until the state enforces rules protecting women and girls in accordance with federal law. The USDA is reviewing grants awarded to Maine’s Department of Education under the Biden administration.
On March 11, the USDA suspended funding for research and programs at the University of Maine but later reversed the decision on March 19.
