The use of corporal punishment by de facto authorities in Afghanistan violates international law and must stop, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said today.

“Physical punishment violates the Convention against Torture and must stop,” said Fiona Frazer, UNAMA human rights chief, stressing that the United Nations “strongly opposes” the death penalty.
