Gov. Tim Walz signed off on the creation of a state-run program that will ensure workers can take weeks or months off with partial pay after having a child, or when they or a family member have a serious health condition.

They also will be able to take time off following an adoption, related to the military deployment of a family member or in situations of domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking.
