Utah voters might soon be casting their votes in a special election if Rep. Chris Stewart announces he’s resigning from Congress.
That would set in motion a unique special election procedure that hasn’t been put to the test in Utah.
“Utah is facing a unique circumstance with the possible departure of a very popular member of Congress,” said Jason Perry, director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics, referring to the potential resignation of Rep. Stewart.
This untested special election process arises from a 2020 law that changed the procedures.
