The proposed law change to improve New Zealand’s fuel resilience is being introduced to Parliament on Thursday.

Energy and Resources Minister Megan Woods said the change would create “an obligation for fuel companies to store a minimum amount of fuel onshore that can be drawn on in an emergency”.

She said the Improving Fuel Resilience Amendment Bill would make sure there was enough petrol, diesel and jet fuel in New Zealand to get through major disruptions to fuel supply.
