Canada Overhauls Toxic Chemical Law, Enacts Right to Environment

Canada will update its process for restricting toxic substances and enshrine a right to a healthy environment into law under legislation approved Tuesday.

Bill S-5, an overhaul of one of Canada’s core environmental laws, became law Tuesday night after passing a final vote in the Senate. Both the Senate and House of Commons made dozens of amendments to the bill in recent weeks.
