Cincinnati is fighting to pass its own gun laws by suing the state over a 2006 law banning municipalities from doing so. Cities have tried and failed before to overturn the law but city lawyers say things have changed.
City officials are expected to give testimony Wednesday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court before Judge Jennifer Branch. Cincinnati sued Ohio in January when it passed two laws pertaining to firearms, one requiring safe storage of firearms and a second banning those under temporary protection orders from possessing guns.
The city is asking Judge Branch to grant a temporary injunction blocking the Ohio law.
