In Sunday Night’s Season Opener, Dallas Defensive Line Dominates, Sends Message
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Dallas defensive line showcased a remarkable level of success in the season opener on Sunday night, tallying an impressive seven sacks and delivering over a dozen hits on Giants QB Daniel Jones.
Among the standout pass rushers was DeMarcus Lawrence, who notched a first-half sack to kickstart his season on a positive note.
For Lawrence, it feels like they’ve sent a message.
“I definitely believe we’ve caught the league’s attention,” Lawrence stated. “We’re the real deal, and we’re on our way.”
Micah Parsons echoed this sentiment after the game, asserting that the Dallas defense is “the best in the National Football League.” Lawrence shares this confidence, though he acknowledges there’s a long journey ahead.
“That’s our aspiration, our goal,” he affirmed. “That’s what we’re aiming for. We’re not getting carried away after just one game. We’ll go back, address our mistakes, and strive for improvement.”
Lawrence credited Sunday night’s success to defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who has been working towards this outcome since his arrival two years ago.
“Props to DQ,” Lawrence praised. “Dan has been exceptional in leading us and putting us in positions to make plays. He’s our fearless leader, and we have immense respect for him.”
Despite the strong performance throughout the game, Lawrence felt a significant shift in momentum after the Giants mounted a promising drive, only to have Juanyeh Thomas block a field goal attempt that was subsequently returned for a touchdown by the newly acquired Noah Igbinoghene.
“It was a game-changer for our team,” he emphasized. “It really altered the energy. They started strong, moving the ball well. But once we got that turnover, it was as if we turned off the lights on them.”
While Lawrence acknowledges the statement made on the field, he’s content to let the outside narrative unfold, recognizing that there are many challenges ahead.
“If you believe a statement was made, feel free to put it on the front page in bold letters,” he quipped, leaving the focus on the team’s ongoing journey.
