A son of Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn made a surprising appearance at an exhibition focused on the country’s royal insult law. The event was organized by an exiled critic of the Thai monarchy, Pavin Chachavalpongpun, who is a prominent academic that fled Thailand to evade charges related to violating the royal defamation law.
Vacharaesorn Vivacharawongse, a former prince who left Thailand in 1996 following his parents’ divorce and now resides in New York, was seen at the exhibition on Monday. He engaged in discussions with Pavin Chachavalpongpun about the controversial royal defamation law.
This development comes about a month after Vacharaesorn Vivacharawongse’s visit to his ancestral homeland. His presence at the exhibition highlights the ongoing debate and scrutiny surrounding Thailand’s strict lese majeste laws and the opposition to them by various individuals, including those in exile.
