Tariffs on Russia and Belarus Extended: Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Trade Minister Don Farrell have extended tariffs on Russian and Belarusian imports for an additional two years, until October 2025. These tariffs, which include a 35% duty on Russian imports and restrictions on gold and energy imports, were initially imposed in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
Review Reveals Issues in Music Festival Strip Searches: A review of strip searches conducted at music festivals has exposed deficiencies in record keeping and officer training. Less than half of NSW police officers who conducted strip searches at select music festivals in 2021 and 2022 completed the required specialist training. The audit also found lapses in completing official festival processing forms, which are meant to ensure searches are conducted lawfully.
Car Crashes onto Sydney Beach: A car flipped over onto Balmoral Beach in Sydney while attempting to exit the carpark. Fortunately, the 33-year-old female driver and her 55-year-old male passenger were able to escape the vehicle with minor injuries. No beachgoers were harmed, and the driver tested negative in a roadside breath test. The vehicle was subsequently removed from the beach.
